Villas WMA Red-headed Woodpeckers continue; elsewhere piles of eagles, Pine Warblers, Canvasbacks, Barn Swallows

I ran into Kathy and Roger Roye-Horn at Villas WMA Sunday evening. I had noticed a"bunch" of Eastern Phoebes, at least 10, plus male and female kestrels, in the brief time I was there. Kathy and Roger found a bunch of other goodies, including the Red-headed Woodpeckers now displaying some signs they intend to stay to nest (the list below is from Kathy and Roger):

Janet Crawford and Karen Johnson report the following from CMBO's Sunday field trips to Turkey Point and Jake's Landing. Some pretty great highlights, including many eagles, Barn Swallow, and a Harbor Porpoise at Jake's Landing:

"Hey Don - In between the walks, we went to Heislerville, and saw 35 Canvasbacks.

CMBO Turkey Point walk. We had a very Eaglely morning, with 18 Bald Eagles at Turkey Point, 2 Adult and 16 Immature, 1 Adult that flew over us and up the road at Hansey Creek, and 2 Adult and 1 unaged at Newport Landing. The young Eagles at Turkey Point were chasing each other, and practicing courtship flight. We had a very early Barn Swallow mixed in with the Tree Swallows. We also went into the woods on Hansey Creek Road where we enjoyed 3 Pine Warblers.

The CMBO walk at Jakes Landing had 6 Bald Eagles, including 1 Adult, 1 4th year, 2 3rd year, who were chasing each other all over the sky, and 2 unaged immatures. The highlight of the evening was not avian. There was a dolphin or porpoise seen in Dennis Creek heading out toward the Bay. A lone Short-eared Owl was hunting across the creek. There were 4 American Woodcock displaying, and while we were enjoying that, a Great Horned Owl flew over twice to check us out.
