More birds than I'd have thought....

Given the wind direction last night, there were certainly more birds around than I'd have thought there would be in the woods today.

The Steiner/CMBO Northwood Nightjars were out early this morning trying to find a few species that we have not been so lucky in locating so far. While we did have some luck in the wee hours of the morning, the fog over the ocean pretty much killed our hopes at getting some sea watching in before we hit the woods.

Interestingly, my prediction of Orchard Orioles and Blue Grosbeaks being more in evidence today, well, it came true. While the number of Blue Grosbeaks was relative to the numbers in the past few days (we had 2 at a couple of locations where there had previously were none and I heard about a few more at other locations we did not hit), it was the Orchard Orioles which seemed to have doubled in number over night. Hidden Valley held no less than 7 Orchards and I am thinking that we had one or two more that I neglected to include in my eBird list.

So now what's next? Well, for me it's continuing to get up well before dawn no matter the migration conditions. For you, I suggest checking out David La Puma's Birding Forecast. He indicates that there should be a good amount of migration overnight tonight. Check out the new At-A-Glance Forecast! I cannot guarantee that you will have a great day of birding, but, I can guarantee that getting out to do a little birding will make you a little happier.
