BIG numbers of Rusty Blackbirds at Villas WMA

Red-headed Woodpecker, Villas WMA [Photo by George Myers]

George Myers sent the following report from Ponderlodge/Villas WMA today:
"This afternoon during a walk at Villas WMA I estimated 180 Rusty Blackbirds coming out of Cox Hall Creek marsh. That is the largest number I have ever observed at one time. Also 1 Red-headed Woodpecker was observed working a fresh hole in a dead tree. The bird was very consistent in returning to the hole. It may be worth keeping an eye on this. Skunk Cabbage is coming up and Spring Peepers were calling. The 3 Redheads were still on the pond."
