Black-headed Gulls at Heislerville: an update

Clay Sutton, who reported two Black-headed Gulls at Heislerville WMA on the 26th, wrote me yesterday saying that he thought that his pictures of the flock of birds there included not two, but three Black-headed Gulls. Since I was in his neighborhood this afternoon, I stopped by and he showed me his evidence. Yes, there was the adult in full alternate plumage and the one that had only just started into that plumage. But, there was a third one, that was about halfway along in its prealternate molt. Very interesting. Particularly as the Black-headed Gulls that had been frequenting areas lower on the Bayshore (particularly around Miami Beach) have been scarce of late. One wonders....
